The numbers in the crowd calendar don’t appear out of thin air. Every spike and dip is connected to something happening in the real world — school schedules, sporting events, Disney’s own ticketed parties, and massive annual events that bring tens of thousands of extra visitors to the Orlando area. Let’s break it down month by month.
January 2028: Mild Crowds With a Few Bumps
January is generally one of the calmer months at Disney World — but it has two notable crowd drivers that catch first-timers off guard every year.
RunDisney Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend rolls through in early January. This event draws thousands of runners — and their families — from all over the world for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, and the legendary Dopey Challenge (that’s 48.6 miles over four days, for the truly committed). It’s one of the most fun events Disney hosts all year, but it does mean elevated crowds, early morning park energy, and a very buzzy vibe in and around the resort.
UCA College Cheerleading Nationals at ESPN Wide World of Sports also lands in mid-January. This is the most prestigious collegiate cheer championship in the country, held right on Disney property. Thousands of athletes, coaches, and families flood the resort — and many of them head to the parks after competition.
Outside of those two weekends, January offers some of the lightest crowds of the year. Midweek days in late January are excellent for park visits.

February 2028: Valentine’s Week + Presidents’ Day = Plan Ahead

Presidents’ Day weekend (third Monday in February) is a reliable crowd spike. Schools across the country observe this holiday, and many families use it as an excuse for a long-weekend Disney trip. Expect elevated crowds at all four parks that Friday through Monday.
EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts typically runs from mid-January through late February. This festival celebrates visual arts, culinary arts, and performing arts with special food booths, interactive exhibits, and the beloved Disney on Broadway concert series. It’s one of EPCOT’s quieter festivals crowd-wise, but it does add an extra layer of magic — and extra visitors — to the park.
UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship (Division II) also falls in late January/early February at ESPN Wide World of Sports, adding another round of cheer families to the resort mix.

Hollywood Studios runs unusually light in June 2028 — multiple days showing 2/10. If there’s ever a time to tackle Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Slinky Dog Dash, and the Tower of Terror with minimal waits, this is it.
There’s a gap in EPCOT festivals between the end of Flower & Garden and the late-summer start of Food & Wine, so EPCOT returns to its regular lineup — still wonderful, just without the festival overlay.

August 2028: The Surprise Contender

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party begins at Magic Kingdom in August on select nights. These are separately ticketed after-hours events that cause Magic Kingdom to close early to regular day guests. The tradeoff is very real: September in Florida is peak heat, peak humidity, and peak Atlantic hurricane season. Come prepared for afternoon storms and the possibility of a disrupted day.

October 2028: Festival Season + Halloween Magic
