Disney’s Riviera Resort Review: My Stay in a One-Bedroom Villa

When planning a stay at Walt Disney World, choosing the right resort can completely shape your experience. For this trip, I decided to try something new and booked a one-bedroom villa at Disney’s Riviera Resort. I had one main reason for choosing it—the Skyliner—but I was also really curious to see if this newer Disney Vacation Club resort lived up to the hype.

After staying there, I can honestly say this resort is beautiful, relaxing, and thoughtfully designed—but it’s not without a few drawbacks, especially depending on how your family likes to vacation.

A Resort Inspired by the European Riviera

Disney’s Riviera Resort is inspired by the coastal regions of France and Italy, and that influence is immediately noticeable. The overall feel is elegant and calm, with soft colors, detailed artwork, and subtle Disney touches woven throughout the space.

If you’re expecting bold, in-your-face Disney theming, this isn’t that. Instead, the theming is more refined. You’ll find artwork inspired by Disney films like Tangled and Peter Pan, but it’s done in a way that feels more like a high-end hotel than a traditional Disney resort. For me, that made it feel like a relaxing escape after long park days—but I can see how families looking for a more playful, heavily themed experience might feel differently.

Dining: Good Food, But Not Always Convenient

One thing that stood out to me right away is that the dining at Riviera is good—but not centralized.

During my stay, I grabbed breakfast from Primo Piatto, the resort’s quick-service location. I ordered the Croque Madame, and it was honestly one of the best quick-service breakfasts I’ve had at Disney. It was rich, filling, and large enough that it could easily be shared. On the other hand, Mark ordered a muffin, which was just average—nothing special, and my daughter ordered the Mickey Waffles and a side of bacon.

The resort also offers more upscale dining at Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera, which is known for both its character breakfast and signature dining experience, along with Le Petit Café for coffee, pastries, and even cocktails.

While the options themselves are solid, the layout is where things get a little tricky. Unlike resorts like Disney’s Contemporary Resort or Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, there isn’t a large central hub where everything is easily accessible.

The biggest downside? If you come back from the parks late and you’re hungry, there really aren’t convenient grab-and-go options available. That’s something that caught me off guard and is definitely worth planning for.

Transportation: The Skyliner Is the Star

The main reason I chose this resort was for access to the Disney Skyliner, and it did not disappoint.

The Skyliner gives you direct access to EPCOT, which is a huge advantage, especially if you plan to spend time there in the evenings. It’s also a really fun way to travel and often faster than buses.

Getting to Disney’s Hollywood Studios does require a transfer at Caribbean Beach, which adds a little time, but it’s still a smooth process.

One unexpected benefit of staying on the Skyliner line is how much it expands your dining options. Even on non-park days, it’s easy to hop over to nearby resorts like Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, or the BoardWalk area for different restaurants, which really helps make up for Riviera’s more limited on-site quick dining.

Amenities and Overall Atmosphere

Riviera Resort leans more toward relaxation than constant activity, and that shows in its amenities. There’s a main pool with a waterslide, a quieter pool area, a fitness center, and scheduled activities like outdoor movies and lawn games.

There are also lounges and bar options, including the rooftop at Topolino’s Terrace, as well as coffee and small bites available at Le Petit Café.

It’s not the most activity-packed resort on property, but it feels calm, clean, and upscale—perfect if you’re looking to slow down a bit during your trip.

The One-Bedroom Villa: Where This Resort Shines

The highlight of my stay was absolutely the one-bedroom villa.

From the moment we walked in, the space felt open, functional, and beautifully designed. The living room area was especially impressive, with elegant decor that felt elevated without losing that Disney touch.

One of my favorite features was the full kitchen and full-size refrigerator. This setup is ideal for families, especially if you plan to have meals in your room or bring snacks back from the parks. It adds a level of convenience that you just don’t get in a standard hotel room.

The Murphy bed in the living room was another pleasant surprise. It was large, easy to use, and actually comfortable—something that’s not always guaranteed with pull-down beds.

The interior hallways are also a big plus compared to resorts with exterior entrances. However, I will say that the layout of the hallways can feel a bit like a maze at times, and it took a little while to get fully oriented.

The Bathroom Setup: Beautiful but Not Ideal

The bathroom design is one area where I think functionality could have been improved.

The space can be split into two sections—one side with a whirlpool tub and sink, and the other with a shower and toilet. While this setup looks nice and works fine, I found myself wishing it were designed as two completely separate bathrooms.

For a family trying to get ready in the morning, two full bathrooms would make things much easier, faster, and more efficient. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s definitely something to consider.

Final Thoughts: Would I Stay Here Again?

Disney’s Riviera Resort is undeniably beautiful. It offers a relaxing atmosphere, thoughtfully designed rooms, and one of the best transportation options on property thanks to the Skyliner.

For me, the highlights were the one-bedroom villa and the easy access to EPCOT. Those two things alone made the stay feel special.

That said, the lack of late-night quick-service food and the spread-out dining options are real drawbacks, especially if convenience is a priority for your family.

Would I stay here again? Yes—but with a plan. I’d make sure to have snacks or meals ready for late nights and go in knowing what to expect from the layout and dining.

If you’re someone who values a quieter, more upscale Disney experience and loves the idea of Skyliner access, Riviera could be a great fit. But if you prefer everything to be centralized and ultra-convenient, you may want to explore other options.
